Times are strange but the hospitality industry is resilient and there are (thankfully) still bars and restaurants opening – and thriving – despite the challenges. Mayami Mexicantina is the newest hotspot to open in Wynwood, Miami’s hip Art District. This 10k square foot, Mayan-inspired restaurant and lounge features a massive, open-air courtyard surrounded by colorful murals as well as full-grown trees and tropical plants. Mayami mixes in global electronic music for a jungle party vibe -think Day Zero or Zamna in Tulum.
Here are cinco (5) uniquely crafted cocktails that will transport your own Mexican paradise:
Red Warrior
This “muy picante” version of an Old Fashioned is stirred with Chili-infused Bulleit Bourbon and Strawberry-Pepper Shrub.
Saka
A surprisingly, easy-to-drink Mezcal-based cocktail; shaken with 400 Conejos Mezcal, Corn Syrup, Lime Juice, Real Agave Azul and Egg White, served with a Hibiscus Salt Rim.
Blood Moon
Patron Reposado Tequila, Chinola Maracuya (passionfruit liqueur from Dominican Republic), and Peanut-Desert Peach Syrup.
Maya Colada
A unique spin on the traditional Pina Colada; shaken with Grey Goose vodka, Avocado Juice, Pineapple Juice and Coconut Cream, then topped with Shredded Coconut.
Red Desert
Bold Mezcal, Eucalyptus-Honey Syrup, Orange Juice and Red Wine.
Mayami also has an intriguing selection of Insect-infused Mezcal Shots -poured tableside, and Micheladas (beer cocktails) as well as their own house-labeled, Pilsner-style beer. Pair the drink of your choice with Guacalot – guacamole with corn, served with a single, towering Chicharron, or the yummy Sashimi Wong-Tong Tacos – mini sushi tacos filled with Ahi tuna, hamachi or salmon.
Happy Hour: Wednesday through Friday, from 5 PM to Midnight; and Saturday and Sunday, from 4 PM to Midnight
