App-Driven Bar Crawl Headed to Downtown Bars Hit by Hurricane Sandy

 In Features

There is a bar crawl is heading to Lower Manhattan – and all you need is an iPhone to get involved.

On May 20, a new app called Beaconcrawl will launch, leading drinkers on a tech-driven tour of the Financial District’s watering holes, many of which were hot hard by Hurricane Sandy and have struggled to get back on their feet.

According to initial reports, drinkers will be directed to different Downtown bars where they will collect points by completing fun tasks and then be able to redeem food and drink specials at at least five bars on and around Stone Street, through the app, Beaconcrawl’s Donn Gobin revealed. The crawl will help launch the app, which the company is hoping will spread to other neighborhoods and, eventually, other cities.

“It’s about showcasing the technology and supporting the businesses down here,” said Gobin. “We work in the neighborhood and live in the neighborhood and we thought it was a great, fun way to get people down here and trying something new.”
