Barstool Review: Church St Tavern Bar

Church St offers some of Tribeca’s best nightlife as well as restaurants and the things that lie beneath them are some of the best hidden gems in the city. Church St Tavern stays true to the streets thematic.

Chefs Max Renny and John Daley started out as line cooks together 10 years ago in NYC. They were one-time roommates and came together for this pop-up at Church St Tavern. While the duo have honed their skills in different areas – Max went the American contemporary route while John honed an expertise with sushi – they were perfectly in tune for this collaboration, together creating the Toro Burger with chopped toro served on a Brioche bun with Maldon sea salt, pickled Myoga and shredded scallion.

While the name of this venue sounds dive bar like, don’t be fooled.

Upon entrance you are greeted by a bar area – now serving as the venue’s omakase pop-up – that has a certain swank to it. Looking inward to white tablecloths and a prom style stairwell leading to an elevated dining area you know you haven’t walked into a roadhouse tavern. Church St Tavern also offers a cocktail program that is far more evolved than a drunken bartender’s rum and coke. See below for highlights from the drinks menu.
