Barstool Review: Ward III

Although Tribeca may not seem like the most intuitive choice when looking for a top notch cocktail bar, Ward III’s initial appeal rests heavily on its location. Relying on both the after work crowd seeking respite from the daily grind, and the late night and weekend crowd, looking for a well crafted cocktail, Ward III caters to true bar connoisseurs.

Find refuge in the decently sized venue, boasting seemingly anonymous décor but one that, upon closer inspection, caters to its needs: a long bar with stools and a bunch of tables surround a large open area that induces people to talk to each other (and allows for larger groups not to be separated). After taking in the laid back yet classy vibe, try one of the carefully concocted cocktails–priced around $14 each.

Named one of GQ’s top ten whiskey bars in America back in 2013, Ward III specializes in the spirit. Try the signature Ward III cocktail, made with bourbon, egg whites, bitters, whiskey, and with apples in the winter and strawberries in the summer. Gin lovers, go safe with the Angel Zakir (gin, muddled cucumber, fresh basil, and fresh lemon juice), and let tequila drinkers enjoy the El Mocambo (blanco tequila, muddled ginger, fresh lemon juice, and orange essence). Not sure what you’re in the mood for? Let the bartender know of your preferred spirit and flavor and let him do the rest.

Drinks always taste better with some food: we suggest the bacon wrapped dates or the deviled eggs (although you can’t go wrong with the macaroni and cheese or the guacamole and chips).

Like what you taste? Head to Times Square for a peek at the owners’ other New York property, the Rum House.
