Bottomless brunch illegal in NYC and now Sundays are ruined

Everyone loves a boozy brunch – I mean, is there anything better than paying a little bit extra to ensure that your Bloody Mary or Mimosa is filled at all times while enjoying some eggs and French toast?

Well, as it turns out, and the New York City Hospitality Alliance has graciously pointed out, those unlimited brunch cocktail specials are actually unlawful. According to the SLA website, the law specifically prohibits restaurants “from selling, serving, delivering or offering to patrons an unlimited number of drinks during any set period of time for a fixed price.” Letting promotors or party organizers do the same is also unlawful, as is any drink special that “attempts to circumvent the law.”

In fact, the only kind of drink deals that are legal are two-for-one specials and discounts no larger than half off the original price.

The SLA hasn’t cracked down yet, but don’t be surprised if your favorite bottomless brunch spot changes the rules and gets rid of those too good to be true all-you-can-drink specials.

And just like that, there goes Sunday…
