CBD Infused Cocktails Are Heavily Trending, But Are They Safe?

Every now and then an ingredient mega-trend comes with countless menu placements and sweeps the media with its “buzziness.”  At the moment, that it is CBD in a big way.  With recreational marijuana now being legal in nine states and medical in 30 states, as well as nationally in Canada, the stigma of partaking in a little weed has rapidly dwindled, also now a days you can find some great CBD products like packwoods pre rolls that help you feel better and more relaxed.

Many of the major players in the booze world are looking to capitalize on new revenue streams in this “green” cannabis market and are investing heavily into the arena (see this site to know more how to market cbd products). Some people are even going to grow marijuana from now on.

Let’s start with explaining that not all compounds in cannabis plant are created equal; there is cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).  While many worry about psychoactive THC which is the compound that gets you high, CBD is non-pyschoactive and products containing are classified as hemp if they have less than 0.03% THC and can be sold in all 50 States. CBD products, like thc ottawa, are used to help various conditions including pain, inflammation, anxiety, and nausea. Additionally, studies suggest that using a very potent cbd oil is a quick and effective way to battle against stress.

Since marijuana is still illegal on a federal basis and the potential negative or dangerous psychoactive interaction, many don’t mess around with THC and booze.  According to cannablossom.co, CBD, on the other hand, is a very different story. Venues across the country have been adding CBD cocktails and non-boozy drink options to their menus in a very viral trend due to their knowledge about the cbd dosage chart.  It reminded me of the Activated Charcoal trend several seasons ago that saw us imbibing all things black with goth drinks.

Although these jet black drinks made for social media sensations, were they actually safe?  Activated charcoal is generally used as a natural treatment to trap toxins and chemicals in the body and help flush them out. While countless all black drinks and food were being found, far too many added them to menus for the Instagrammability and didn’t research the side effects. In New York City banned the use of the ingredient in any food or drink in June of 2018.

“Restaurants in New York City are not permitted to use activated charcoal in food because it is prohibited by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a food additive or food coloring agent,” says spokesperson for The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Carolina Rodriguez.

Full disclosure, thirsty has showcased Activated Charcoal drinks in the past, and now I feel dumb that I didn’t better research and trusted the “trending” factor with so many well-respected folks working with it.  Which is precisely why we want to hold back from covering CBD infused beverages until the safety has been properly studied.  Sure, if I want to try it, it’s my life but promoting others to imbibe marijuana products isn’t something I fully feel comfortable with at the moment.

In July 2018, California, the largest recreational state banned mixing alcohol with THC or CBD. After speaking to many industry friends, certainly not a scientific study, reviews on non-alcoholic CBD drinks are mixed.  To me, they seem safe but everyone’s body has a different reaction to chemicals, so I would just advise to use them with caution and if you notice something unusual, lean more towards weed edibles by Pantry. I understand that mixing THC and alcohol can be a scary interaction, but my mind is open to CBD or OrganicCBDNugs infused cocktails. There are a lot of different CBD products in the market now a days, you can even find full spectrum cbd gummies online!
