Just because you’re not in Munich doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy Oktoberfest. Here in L.A., you’ll find two German restaurant/beer halls that are going all out for the month-long holiday.
Oktoberfest at Wirtshaus in Hollywood and Rasselbock in Long Beach will commence on Saturday, Sept. 22 with the celebration running through Sat., Oct. 27.
The kick-off, on Saturday at 3 p.m., will feature a local celebrity guest on hand to tap the restaurants’ respective, ceremonial Oktoberfest kegs (one at each location). Now a tradition at the restaurant group’s venues, the ceremonial kegs will be “on the house.” Guests who are seated and purchase an entrée, drink for free from those first kegs until they run dry.
Wirtshaus’ Oktoberfest plans entail regularly-changing beer and food specials during the celebration weeks, live traditional German music on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the restaurant’s Oktoberfest and accompanying Erdinger-sponsored décor and giveaways. Wirtshaus will also encourage guests to break out their best Oktoberfest get-up, joining the fully-costumed staff who will be dressed in their lederhosen or dirndls every weekend throughout Oktoberfest. Costume contests will occur each weekend, as will stein-holding contests.
Rasselbock’s Oktoberfest plans will involve much of the same as Wirtshaus’, plus kid-friendly “Family Sundays” and a Back-Lot Beer Garden running the first weekend in October to include a live German oompah band, specials on Oktoberfest beers, a BBQ, a kid’s corner and more.
The best part? All celebrations are free of cover. Prost!
