Chichibu the First, Budin’s $7 lattes, NY’s 1st licensed farm cidery

Chichibu at Leave Rochelle Out f It

Whiskey lovers take note: Leave Rochelle Out of It has been blessed with two bottles of Chichibu the 1st, the very first cask-strength whisky to come out of Japan. There were only 2,000 bottles produced, and the Lower East Side bar will be selling glasses of the hard-to-find whisky for $42 a glass until they run out. Greenpoint coffee shop selling $7 lattes

Budin, a new coffee shop that opened up in Brooklyn last week, is upping the java game, selling $7 lattes. The Nordic shop will have more reasonable offerings – like a $2 cuppa coffee – but owner Crystal Pei told Brooklyn Paper that the pricier Scandanavian blends are where it’s at. “Their roast is lighter and the flavor profile is different,” she says. In addition to selling the most expensive coffee in NYC, Budin will also peddle Nordic design goods, kitchen ware and coffee accessories. The owners are also working with a liquor lawyer to get a liquor license. Budin, 114 Greenpoint Avenue, www.budin-nyc.com

New York gets its first licensed farm cidery

Albany-based Nine Pin Cidery has been given the distinction of the first licensed farm cidery in New York, after Governor Cuomo last year signed legislation allowing farm cideries to operate an on-site tap room. Nine Pin Cider can now sell pints of their delicious blend at their capitol city brewery, while increasing the alcohol by volume to 8.5% (up from 7%). With the new rules, Nine Pin can also sell other New York-based beers, wines and spirits as well as other locally made products. While there are currently no farm cideries operating in NYC, here’s hoping that with the opening of Nine Pin Cider others will soon follow.
