Cutty Sark Throws the Coolest Party with Blood Orange at Brooklyn Bazaar

Earlier this week Cutty Sark threw one of the best parties we’ve been to in quite awhile, and that’s saying a lot because we majored in party.

Introducing its first new whiskey product in over 80 years when the original blended scotch was smuggled into the U.S. by Captain Bill McCoy, the origin of the real “The Real McCoy” … no, like, for real. The new product, Cutty Sark Prohibition, honors McCoy’s smuggling efforts during the Prohibition era.

Appropriately, Cutty Sark brought boundary breaking musician, Blood Orange “Dev Hynes,” and photographer Tod Seelie to the to toast to the rebellious heritage of the brand.  As if these two talents weren’t enough, they brought out a super cool crowd to one of our obsessions, Brooklyn Bazaar, in Greenpoint and treated guests to Roberta’s Pizza and Crif Dogs.  Then there were the Cutty Sark Prohibition drinks created by heavy-hitters, Jason Littrell of Critical Mass Events and Robert Krueger of Extra Fancy, shout out to our personal fav, the Cutty’s Vanilla Collins.

Told you it was one of the best “drinks” industry parties of 2014. Blood Orange, Tod Seelie, Brooklyn Bazaar, Roberta’s, Crif Dogs, Jason Littrell, Robert Krueger PLUS a DJ set from Brendan Fallis, boxing from Chris Algieri and Bellmore Kickboxing Academy, dancers from Lady Circus and customized zines from 8ball Zines Production.  The highlight of the night was uber-talented Blood Orange’s incredible live performance and of course, the drinks, or was it Roberta’s Pizza and the drinks?  Anyhow, bravo Cutty Sark, New Yorkers are hard to please and you shut it down!

Cutty Sark Prohibition Whiskey

Back to the drink, Cutty Sark Prohibition Era (or Cutty Pro) is a blended Scotch whiskey is handcrafted in Scotland in small batches from “top quality grain and single malt whiskies” says the brand. It is matured in American oak casks and botttled at 50% ABV / 100 proof. Cutty Pro pays tribute to the style that was popular during that time and the brand’ says of the product, that it has a “flavor of black pepper and toffee notes with a subtle hint of vanilla and citrus fruits” and the packaging, “The black opaque bottle design and cork seal are inspired by the dark brown and green glass bottles that were popular during that time.” Props to Cutty Pro because we love us an all black errythang bottle.

Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition is available now in select markets, rolling out nationwide throughout 2014, with a recommended retail price of $29.99.

Special shout out to our girl, the lovely Nicole Riske, of The Edrington Group … keep up the great work because Cutty Sark Prohibition Era’s launch party was certainly The Real McCoy.
