Mixology Mecca Death & Co. Celebrates Ten Years of Cocktails

Ten years ago, I went to an East Village bar on a date and found myself totally and utterly smitten … with the bar, not the date.  Death & Co. was one of the first bars that got me excited about cocktail culture and I am so overjoyed that it is still around and very much part of my lifestyle in libations.

Opened on New Year’s Eve 2006, Death & Co. quickly became a force in the burgeoning cocktail scene amongst legendary players like Flatiron Lounge, Pegu Club, Employees Only and Milk & Honey.

Now a true industry icon in its own right, Death & Co. has inspired so many other bars and of course the many talented bartenders (check out an amazing list of some names below) that have been behind the stick there and have gone on to do remarkable work in the cocktail industry.

To coincide with the anniversary, the bar has recently rolled out their new menu under the expert direction of Tyson Buhler.

The new menu book organizes cocktails by categories:

In the Raw

Cocktails utilizing ingredients that have been fermented, all low in ABV

Water of Life

Cocktails that showcase distillates that are unaged and unadulterated

Transformation

Cocktails that integrate spirits that have been aged or further manipulated after distillation

Luxury

Cocktails made with rare and exceptional spirits and ingredients

We were lucky enough to be able to celebrate Death & Co.’s 10-year anniversary, along with co-owners David Kaplan and Alex Day, and it certainly did not disappoint.

Just a few notable D&C bartenders from the past 10 years:
