On Louisville, Kentucky’s Historic Whiskey Row, Hell Or High Water is a new bar celebrating community, cocktails, and, on May 5, – Derby Day. Hell Or High Water is a seated cocktail experience, much like a fine dining establishment, with bar fixtures and furniture that are a mixture of vintage and new.
Patrons enter the bar through a disguised doorway set in the Hello Curio Shop, a whimsical store stocked with all things Kentucky that faces the Washington Street side of Whiskey Row. Whiskey Row was once home to the city’s bourbon industry, but, now, new distilleries such as Rabbit Hole Distillery are opening in this recently revitalized section of downtown Louisville’s Main Street.
While the interior décor and ambiance is a nod to the 1920’s, Hell Or High Water’s cocktails are set in the future. The cocktail program, designed by Doug Petry of RYE, is separated into the “Hell” side with stronger, boozier drinks, and “High Water” with brighter, more refreshing drinks. A locally-sourced grazing menu with cheese boards, charcuterie, and chocolates is also offered.

Upon arrival on Derby Day (May 5), guests will enjoy a welcoming aperitif, Hell or High Water’s version of the pinkish Lily cocktail. Made with Finlandia Vodka and Cranberry Juice, the Lily is the official drink of the famous Kentucky Oaks stakes race at Churchill Downs. Of course, a Mint Julep will be on the menu as well.
