Since Port Sa’id, the renowned Tel Aviv restaurant from visionary chef Eyal Shani, opened in Manhattan’s Hudson Square this summer, it’s become a culinary destination. But we are here for the drinks especially the Arak Mojito made with arak, lemon juice and simple syrup — a straightforward yet delicious cocktail.
Port Sa’id’s story began in 2012, located in a charming Tel Aviv courtyard adjacent to the Great Synagogue. It swiftly became a haven for both locals and tourists, offering a unique all-hours, al-fresco dining experience. Now, New Yorkers can experience the same atmosphere and ever-evolving menu, marking the international debut of Port Sa’id.
Central to the Port Sa’id experience is its meticulously curated music program. In New York, the restaurant has joined forces with the Los Angeles-based music collective, In Sheep’s Clothing, to infuse soul-stirring tunes throughout the venue. Vinyl enthusiasts can explore and acquire music from a dedicated retail space, adding an extra layer to the sensory journey.
Port Sa’id’s menu, like its ambiance, will be cosmopolitan and contemporary. Emphasizing seasonality, the restaurant will source the freshest ingredients from local purveyors, offering a range of dishes meant for sharing. Anticipate plates of salted seafood, Levantine-spiced root vegetables, Middle Eastern sandwiches, and succulent grilled meats. To complement this culinary feast, Port Sa’id will showcase an extensive selection of wines, including reds, whites, roses, and unique orange varieties, along with a full bar and cocktail program.
Although indoors, the designers of Port Said New York, Dror Shef Sher and Tal Friedland Shef Sher, have succeeded in infusing the space with the vibrant and open energy of Tel Aviv’s al-fresco dining. The soaring ceilings, open layout, and warm materials create a comfortable and casual ambiance. In the coming months, an outdoor cafe space is also planned, further enhancing the welcoming atmosphere.
