Drink This Now: Freedom Margarita at Chicago’s Fat Rosie’s

Drink up — it’s really Mexican Independence Day! Commonly confused as Cinco de Mayo in the U.S, Mexican Independence Day is actually celebrated on September 16th. Thankfully, Fat Rosie’s Taco & Tequila Bar, located in the Chicago area, is looking out for their patrons with a day full of celebration and specials planned! Fat Rosie’s “Director of Fun,” Juan Carlos Martinez, will make sure you are having just that, celebrating the joyous occasion of Mexican Independence.

The abridged version of the history behind Mexico’s Independence Day is that it celebrates the moment when “Grito de Dolores,” the famous cry was made by the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla calling for Mexico’s independence from Spain in September 1810.

From September 15th to September 18th, all 4 Fat Rosie locations will be offering spirited specials like a mouthwatering Freedom Margarita featuring the colors of the Mexican flag, a twist on the Fat Rosie’s house margarita crafted with Centenario tequila and Gran Gala curaçao, infused with strawberry and kiwi puree.

Perfectly aligned with celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month on September 15th, the President of Mexico rings the same 200-year-old bell on the eve of September 16th to kick off the celebration of Mexico’s freedom from Spain.

A restaurant concept crafted by Scott Harris Hospitality, Fat Rosie’s Taco & Tequila Bar is a fun, hip and festive family-friendly Mexican Taqueria featuring a modern take on traditional Mexican cuisine and craft cocktails.

“The colors of this cocktail represent the Mexican Flag and add a special touch for our guests to celebrate the Independence of Mexico,” Victor Tenorio, Beverage Director for Fat Rosie’s, tells Thirsty.
