Hidden Cocktail Bar & Live Music Venue Spirit House Echo Park Opens In L.A.

Spirit House Echo Park is a new neighborhood watering hole for easy sipping cocktails – a place where guests can relax, get comfortable while enjoying live performances by local bands and deejays.

In order to find Spirit House Echo Park, owned by David Tewasart and  Bryan Sharafkhah-Sharp, guests need to walk through Thai street eats spot Sticky Rice and past the red curtain. Inside, the candle-lit bar is decorated with Chiang Mai lanna lanterns, red oak walls and ceilings and Thai rain drums that are utilized as the low lounge tables.

The bar program, a collaborative effort by Sharafkhah-Sharp and bar manager, Sam Gallagher (previously of Dominick’s and Bar Stella) highlights classic cocktails with a Thai-inspired twist. The Spirit House Echo Park team wanted to curate a list of libations that were tropical and lesser-known, intentionally leaving off the standard fare martinis, Old Fashioneds and negronis. Signature cocktails include the Thai Tea Gimlet made with Thai tea-infused gin, lime juice, house-made orgeat, and lime leaf, the Sabai Fizz with rum, lime juice, coconut cream, coconut milk, soda water, and  lime leaf, the Pandan Sour with gin, pandan leaf, house-made coconut cordial, lemon, and Aquafaba and the Lemongrass Tonic with gin, lemongrass, lime, and house-made cold-brewed tonic.

Chaing Mai Mule

The cocktail menu also includes classic cocktails, such as the Paper Plane, Mai Tai, Pain Killer, New York Sour and Tiki Territory made with navy strength rum, banana liqueur, house-made coffee liqueur, pineapple, orange, and lime. The orgeat, cola, coffee liqueur, and cold-brewed tonic water infused with lemongrass are all made in-house. The bar program also includes a selection of over 20 different rums (which includes a selection of Thai rums), Thai beers, craft beers, and a rotating selection of a red, white, and rose wine.

More than just cocktails, Spirit House Echo Park aims to showcase local musicians while bringing the local community of musicians together. Guests can enjoy live music every week with performances by local blues artist, Rocco DeLuca on Tuesdays, jazz drummer, Kyle Crane on Thursdays, and ambient deejay, Jungle Gym Records on Sundays.

“The musical talent behind our bar is kind of insane,” says Gallagher. “We have members of Family Of The Year, Awolnation, Mondo Cosmo, Nona, and more. We want to create a place where artists can hang out and have fun.”
