As we edge into October it’s time for the leaves to change colors, the birds to fly away, and for New Yorkers to slowly recede from their outdoor cafes and into their favorite indoor watering holes.
The best spots always offer a nice collaboration between cozy ambience and quality cocktails and Holy Ground, the newly opened speakeasy in TriBeCa, checks both boxes in its effort to become your fall destination. Speakeasies have grown in popularity and “trendiness” in recent years and as such may have lost a little of their unique flair to some.
The Belafonte at Holy Ground
Holy Ground, like most such places, offers a colorful combination of the traditional elements such as classical architecture, a secluded locale, and of course, some off-menu items to go along with classic and historical cocktails (try the Belafonte, a tiki-inspired sip with a mix of rum, sherry, passionfruit, pineapple and lime.)
To remedy any speakeasy weariness New Yorkers may have, Holy Ground’s fresh take on the concept provides a nice smokehouse feel that is backed up by its quality meats. While a classy 1920’s vibe may not strike you as the setting for Brisket Sliders, Smoked Chicken, and Prime Rib – you’ll stop questioning after eating.
The secluded location of the speakeasy – in the basement of 112 Reade St – does nothing to hinder the space itself from offering both a chance for intimate dining or a more open group affair. With dining areas designated Foxy’s Lair, Bunny’s Hideaway, and the Chapel Room, you’ll be quick to pick a favorite – and be sure to reserve it in the future.
Bottle service at Holy Ground
With a new Happy Hour deal offering $12 cocktails and $2 off bar snacks from 5 -7 p.m. as well as 11:30 p.m. – 1 a.m., this hidden gem may not remain so hidden. If you’re at a loss at where to go in NYC now that your summer spot has boarded up for October, be sure to give Holy Ground a look.
