There is nothing better than a icy cold margarita (or a Mojito or Sangria) on a hot, summer day. Now, Thirsty New Yorkers have even more options, with the opening of Horchata, Black Ant and a new location of San Loco.
This new spot by E Squared Hospitality has a solid menu of cocktails, including Margaritas, Mojitos and Caipirinhas, available in flavors like Watermelon, Passionfruit and Blood Orange. There are Horchatas, too – the Pick Me Up with espresso is delicious. The menu also features white and red Sangria, a selection of wine and beer, Mexican soda and aqua frescas. 470 Sixth Avenue; 212-243-8226; www.horchatanewyork.com
At this new East Village spot from the team from Ofrenda, it’s all about the tequila and mezcal. With an endless selection to choose from – broken down by type – devotees will be more than pleased with the offerings at Black Ant. Come during happy hour and try the $8 lite bites including Grilled Corn, Guacamole, Tacos and the Una con Todo with chorizo, pork belly and lots of other deliciousness. 60 Second Avenue; 212598-0300; www.blackantnyc.com
When Mexican joint San Loco closed its Williamsburg location in April, fans were bummed about losing a cheap spot to drink. But it recently reopened in a new location nearby and the $6 margaritas and $3.50 beer is back. The $7.50 jar drinks – like Whiskey Sour and Vodka Limeade – are one of the best deals in town. Don’t worry about drinking too many – there are tacos and burritos to help soak up the alcohol. 160 North 4th Street, Williamsburg (other locations in NYC); 718-218-8479; www.sanloco.com
