Celebrate King’s Day with The Royal Dutch Negroni with Rutte Gin

The Netherlands celebrate their national holiday, King’s Day, on 27 April to celebrate the birth of King Willem-Alexander. To celebrate, we are toasting to the monarch with The Royal Dutch Negroni.  This delicious Dutch version of the Italian classic is the perfect compliment for the all-out party that descends upon the country.

Myriam Hendrickx, Master Distiller Rutte Gin & Genever shares, “Anything you enjoy during King’s Day should be orange and this Negroni variation delivers not just that, it also makes a great combination and the celery gin elevates the citrusy and fresh notes of the ingredients together with the sparkling wine as topping. Genever is the national spirit of the Netherlands and it gives the Negroni much more round and complex flavour of nuttiness and malty-ness. The perfect Negroni for Whiskey lovers.”

The Royal Dutch Negroni

  • 1 oz Rutte Celery Gin
  • 1 oz Rutte Oranjebitters (substitute with Aperol if needed)
  • 1 oz white sweet vermouth
  • 2 ds of Peychaud’s Bitters

Stir all ingredients on ice in a tumbler and turn it into a ‘Royal Dutch Negroni Royale’ by topping it up with a splash of Champagne.

Garnish with a stick of celery. Optional: Use Rutte Old Simon Genever to make it even more dutch, and garnish with an orange twist.
