The Martinelle Cocktail by Franky Marshall with Pineau des Charentes That You Should Be Making

Pineau des Charentes has been considered a secret weapon ingredient of many bartenders throughout the world and we are increasingly seeing it incorporated in cocktails. Modern bartender icon, Ms. Franky Marshall, is a Pineau des Charentes educator who has been spreading the beauty of this beloved French beverage in an official capacity since 2017.  The Martinelle cocktail, created by Marshall, is definitely a cocktail that should be on your radar.

Ms. Franky Marshall shares, “Pineau des Charentes is one of my favorite spirited wines from France. Made of two components: grapes and eau de vie de Cognac, this beverage is bright and crisp – just like the Charentes region where it’s made!” Clearly she has a tremendous love and respect for Pineau.  Of the Martinelle cocktail, Marshal explains, “This is a Martinez variation that places Pineau front and center. While Martinez has gin, sweet vermouth, and Maraschino liqueur, the Martinelle has Pineau des Charentes, a little bit of gin, and Genepy.”

Martinelle Recipe & Directions

  • 1 oz Pineau des Charentes White
  • 1 oz Gin
  • 0.5 oz Génépy des Alpes
  • 1 drop Orange Citrate Bitters
  • 2 dashes Absinthe

Add all ingredients to mixing glass. Stir with ice until cold and strain into Nick and Nora glass. Garnish with a manicured lemon twist expressed into cocktail and placed on side of glass.
