They say “teamwork makes the dream work” – damn right. In collaboration, all-star restaurant groups, LDV (American Cut, Scarpetta) and Den Hospitality (The Garret, Dinner table) have debuted The Lately to the Chelsea/MePa area.
The Lately – standing in the former LDV-owned nightclub, No. 8 space – is a chic cocktail bar with a modern yet old-timey feel. The 3,400-square-feet space reflects “an upstate cabin of yore” with a homey fireplace, funky animal-themed wallpapers, hard-wood panels and other outdoorsy aesthetics – think Mad Men meets Twin Peaks, really though. Suits and sticks have struck at The Lately.
The cocktail program is powered by Den Hospitality’s beverage director Grant Wheeler while the culinary program is steered by John Meadow’s LDV. The cocktail menu is grouped into three “rounds” (see below for more). As for the “munchies” menu, there’s a Schaller & Weber spicy cheddar bratwurst on a pretzel roll; Sigmund’s hot pretzel with beer mustard for dipping; and quinoa hush puppies in charred jalapeno-cheese sauce. The kitchen offerings were clearly inspired by New York City street eats, and are a true match-made with Wheeler’s well-executed cocktails.
ROUND 1 ft. classic ‘tails, i.e. Negroni, Manhattan, Margarita… You name ‘em.
ROUND 2 ft. next-level classics incorporating fresh juices and other modern-day ingredients. Hint: Activated charcoal
