Old Tom Tea at Cherry Point in Brooklyn

At Cherry Point, in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood, it’s all about English-inspired dishes and drinks. There’s charcuterie and duck and meat and game dinners, paired perfectly with apple wine and mead to wash it down. But the cocktails are the real standouts, including the Old Tom Tea, made with a blend of gin, Earl Grey tea and syrup – quote British, indeed – along with egg white and lemon juice.

“The Old Tom Tea was created by the whole team – bartenders, chefs and cooks – to be a refreshing all day cocktail that blends the pleasures of both tea-time and party-time,” owner Vincent Mazeau tells thirsty. “We dig the bergamot flavor from the tea, the floral notes from the Old Tom gin and the smooth texture from the egg white. Drinks best from a tea cup… pinky out.”

Old Tom Tea recipe and preparation

  • 1.5 oz. Old Tom gin
  • .75 oz. lemon juice
  • .75 oz. Earl Grey syrup (simple syrup with Earl Grey tea instead of water)
  • 1 oz. double strength Earl Grey tea (made twice as strong as usual and chilled)
  • 1 egg white
