On The Move: Carroll Place opens in former Kenny’s Castaways space

The stretch of Bleecker Street between Laguardia Place and 6th Avenue has long been known for its grungy bars and NYU student hangouts, complete with $1 shots and the like. Now, a swanky gastropub called Carroll Place by the team from Osteria Cotta on the Upper West Side has moved into the space formerly occupied by live music venue Kenny’s Castaways, which closed in 2012, which might mean a new era for the formerly run-down block.

The new Carroll Place is serving American and Italian fare like charcuterie and cheese boards and artisanal pizzas along with $12 cocktails, including the vodka-based Dirty Spicy and the La Cotta with bourbon, Campari and maraschino liqueur.

The lower level of Carroll Place has more of a dining room vibe (think communal seating and high top tables), while the upstairs – dubbed the “Living Room” – features plush couches and oversized chairs and offers a comfortable place to enjoy those craft cocktails, Italian beers and 20 wines available by the glass.

Salute!
