In need of a cocktail? Why not go sip one with a view? These Rooftop Bars all around Los Angeles not only boast delicious drinks, but you get a sweeping city view, too.
When you go downtown, it’s time to go up, Upstairs that is. The rooftop of Ace Hotel was transformed into an indoor/outdoor lounge and pool inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis House and the legendary Hollywood night spot Les Deux Café, complete with a concrete bunker-like bar with a light installation, a concrete pool inspired by Donald Judd’s pool in Marfa, Texas plus a courtyard lined with steel frame windows and patterned canopies by local artist Alia Penner.
The drinks at Upstairs are just as cool. “I think that Upstairs has really good versions of the drinks people really want to drink,” says Mary Bartlett, Ace DTLA’s Beverage Director. “We lean more toward fun than super serious mixology, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t care about quality. We’re happy to make you a classic cocktail, but if you open the menu, you’re more likely to find fun, sometimes silly, drinks that we think pair nicely with swimsuits and sunshine.”
Try the Make Mama Nice Again with gin, lillet rouge, pineapple, lime, cinnamon, seltzer or Peluca Lake Michelada with Mexican lager, tomato juice, tamarind, fish sauce, lime, serrano and tajin with mezcal. Additionally, Upstairs is known for serving up a large selection of cool natural wines in plastic cups (because: pool) which adds to the ultra-hip yet unpretentious vibe. Lite bites like eggplant barbacoa tacos and oysters are also offered.

Atop the six-story, 70 room boutique hotel designed by Thierry Gaugain, sits one of Hollywood’s most eclectic and colorful hotspots. The rooftop of Mama Shelter, just blocks from the TCL Chinese Theatre along the Walk of Fame, allows you to take in all the sights of Los Angeles with a near 360 degrees view from the Hollywood sign to Downtown to South Bay to the Westside.
The funky rooftop includes a bustling bar and full restaurant with standout dishes such as the Half Mary`s Chicken served with coleslaw and Korean BBQ sauce and the Burger Du Jour. We recommend cooling off with the Mediterranean Mule with rhubarb infused vodka, ginger beer, and lime, or if you are taking a break from booze, order The Dirty Harry mocktail with pomegranate, jalapeno and lime.

Plan to put this celebrity-favorite spot “on repeat.” Stacked on top of the popular restaurant E.P., West Hollywood’s L.P. is an expansive 5,500-square foot rooftop overlooking the Hollywood Hills features that features fabulous foliage, fire pits and globe string lights. The beverage program at E.P. & L.P. (music lingo for “extended play” and “long play”) features specialty cocktails with an occasional Asian twist created with the finest premium spirits and locally sourced ingredients led by Beverage Director Adam Nystrom.
The bar team incorporates exotic spices into handcrafted cocktails to pair with the dynamic menus of Chef Tikaram. The forward-thinking bar menu offers imbibers unique drinks such as seasonally-inspired bubble tea cocktails served in a sealed plastic cup and an oversized straw, (we recommend The OG Ice-T made with white whiskey, Thai tea, guanabana, Amaro, coconut milk and tapioca Boba).
L.P. also offers cocktails on draft, a diverse list of wines, craft beers, large format cocktails for groups, a boutique selection of sake and soju and a Sunday Spritz menu. If you are looking to be a little incognito, hide out at Frankie’s, a secluded nook on the rooftop with its own dedicated bar. You’ll find it next to their now famous neon ‘Where Love Lives” sign.
