South Pointe Tavern Is Where You Should Be Drinking in Miami Beach’s SoFi

If you haven’t been to South Pointe Tavern yet, it’s time to check it out.  A cozy bar in the South of Fifth – or SoFi – neighborhood on Miami Beach, the tavern generates warmth, not only from its glowing lanterns and brick-lined interior, but also from its friendly staff.

In addition to boasting a large selection of whiskeys and tequilas (the largest on South Beach, in fact), the bar offers handcrafted cocktails curated by Distilled Hospitality’s Robert Ferrara and Marinko Rankovic, head bartender.

South Pointe Tavern cocktails

Some of my favorites include:

Tavern Old Fashioned

Made to perfection, with Jim Beam Black bourbon, housemade Left Hand coffee reduction and Angostura bitters, and served over a single, over-sized ice cube with a fresh Florida orange twist. The result is a rich, sweet, spirit-forward cocktail with a hint of chocolate and citrus.

South of 5th Smash

Fruity and icy, this shaken drink contains nutty Lustau Oloroso sherry wine, brilliant purple-colored Acai berry liqueur, simple syrup, and a bar spoon of raspberry preserves. Including fresh basil leaves into the shaker cuts the cocktail’s sweetness. Fresh raspberries, plus, wheels of lemon and lime slices are added enhancements.

Miami State of Mind

A light and refreshing cocktail mixed with Olemca Altos Plata agave tequila, fresh watermelon and lime juices. Thanks to added zesty cilantro and jalapeño slices, it is more peppery than sweet.

Speyside Buck

Speyside Buck at South Pointe Tavern

A crisp and zesty drink with Glenlivet Founder’s scotch whiskey, ginger syrup, fresh lime juice and Angostura bitters, which are mixed, shaken and strained into an ice-filled highball glass.

Day Trip to Oaxaca

This Mexican-inspired stirred cocktail is built with Ilegal Reposado mezcal, agave, cinnamon syrup and exotic mole bitters. After strained over a big cube of ice, this spicy and smoky drink is given a grapefruit peel garnish.

Hungry? South Pointe Tavern’s kitchen offers a variety of delicious bar bites. To share, options include artisanal meat and cheese boards with gourmet accouterments such as pitted and brined Kalamata olives.

For hungrier appetites, tackle the hearty pastrami on toasted rye bread baked by Zak The Baker, a local and beloved bakery. The sandwich comes with a deli pickle spear and housemade veggie chips. Bonus: there are gluten-free options, too.

Go now, go often.
