At the 1 Hotel in South Beach, guests are treat to a delicious and refreshing scent when they walk through the door, a mixture of eucalyptus, oakwood, musk, tree moss and more. Now, the same unique blend is available as a cocktail at the property’s Drift lobby bar, the Kindling.
Served in a terrarium surrounded by live succulents – to mimic the 1 Hotel’s peaceful and nature-centric entrance – the Kindling is truly a sight to see.
“Made to mimic the cedar, oak, moss and eucalyptus fragrance one experiences when at the 1 Hotel South Beach, The Kindling blends smokey scotch, spicy rye, aromatic Mamajuana, bold and complex Barolo Chinato, eucalyptus forward Amaro Braulio, and bittersweet aperol together to make a stunning presentation,” explains Beverage Director Steven Minor. “Smoked a la minute with our custom eucalyptus and cedar blend, this cocktail is a complex and perfectly balanced libation that appeals to your senses.”
The Kindling recipe and preparation:
- 1 oz Rye Whiskey
- .5 oz Laphroaig 10 Yr Scotch
- .5 oz Candela Mamajuana
- .5 oz Barolo Chinato
- .5 oz Amaro Braulio
- .5 oz Aperol
- Dash of Salt
- Garnish with “Rooster” Orange Peel
- Cedar and Eucalyptus for Smoke Gun
Pour all ingredients into a jar, stir until well combined, funnel into a glass bottle, and store in refrigerator. Pour 3 oz of mixture into a stirring beaker filled with ice and stir for ten seconds. Place a large format ice cube in a rocks glass and strain cocktail over ice. Garnish with orange rooster top and place cocktail into terrarium filled with live succulents.
Place cedar + eucalyptus mixture into smoke gun, and use a lighter to start the gun. Blow smoke into the terrarium until it is full and quickly place the cork cover on top, sealing all the smoke in. Allow the smoke to infuse and circulate, remove the top and waft the smoke to smell. Remove cocktail, and enjoy!
