Thirsty Guide to Art Basel Miami 2022

Art Basel Miami Beach, the favored annual meeting place for the international art world, is held in the first week of December and draws celebrities, cultural icons as well as art lovers from all over the world. If you’re wondering where to look for art investments, this is the place. The debut of the Swiss-based Art Basel’s North American outpost on Miami Beach, in December of 2002, elevated the Magic City’s status from an international playground to a global cultural destination –and playground.

Officially, the 19th edition of Art Basel Miami takes over at the Miami Beach Convention Center on December 1st through 3rd. However, Art Miami Week gets an earlier start on Monday November 28th, and spreads across the Beach and the city of Miami. The Magic City will host specially curated programs, exclusive special events, late-night parties as well as cutting-edge art from artists and galleries from around the globe.

We’ve put together a few of the best satellite art shows and special events for thirsty art-lovers “Basel-ing” during Art Miami Week.

A TASTE OF ART

An immersive, alcohol-infused exhibit taking place at Mandarin Oriental, Miami with artist John Collingwood, Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin and Aubi & Ramsa -a unique selection of boozy ice creams and sorbets made with premium alcohol and ingredients and produced in small batches.  Visitors will indulge in a unique multi-sensory experience intended to showcase the intricate, creative elements that constitute the perfect cocktail, dish and artwork.

Using ratio algorithms, Collingwood paints cocktails in geometrical shapes and forms including four paintings inspired by his love of classic gin-based cocktails: the Dry Martini; Negroni; Clover Club; French 75 and The Martinez.

A precursor to the Martini, the luxury hotel’s Martinez is shaken with Drumshambo Gunpowder Irish Gin, sweet vermouth, maraschino liqueur, bitters and blood orange juice.

Collingwood’s 17 paintings will be prominently displayed throughout the luxury property, including the hotel’s popular MO Bar + Lounge; its award-winning Peruvian restaurant, La Mar by Gastón Acurio; and along the sleek walls of the hotel lobby and a special gallery area — with each artwork inspiring one-of-a-kind tasting experiences.
