What to Drink During the Jaleo by José Andrés Gin & Tonic Festival in Las Vegas

In honor of National Gin & Tonic Day on April 9, chef José Andrés and ThinkFoodGroup, the creative team behind José Andrés’ group of restaurants, will kick off the annual Gin & Tonic Festival with a unique drinking experience.

During the Gin & Tonic Festival, which runs from April 9-24 at Jaleo by José Andrés at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, guests can look forward to trying different variations of the iconic Spanish cocktail. “Between our bartenders, chefs, and myself, it is not uncommon that we randomly try our gin and tonics with different things that we happen to have at hand, and we text each other and celebrate it,” said Miguel Lancha, ThinkFoodGroup’s cocktail innovator.

There are three key components to making a Spanish-style gin and tonic. Lancha says the ratio between 3:1 and 4:1 (tonic water to gin) is very important. The next thing is to use a lot of chilling power. “Don’t be shy on ice,” he says. Lastly, the aromatic garnish factor. “Whether it is citrus peels, herbs, spices, bitters, or a thin slice of some veggies or citrus.”

While a variety of gin and tonic cocktails will be offered during the festival, you should make sure to try the Cítrico, which is a permanent cocktail on the Las Vegas menu. Order them individually or sip a little bit of everything with the flight option.

There’s also an opportunity to contribute to a good cause. “The Botanist pledges $5 to the Independent Restaurant Coalition for every Botanist & Tonic (or Botanist & Tonic to-go kit) sold throughout April and May, up to $25,000. Donations will be doubled on National Gin & Tonic Day, April 9,” Lancha says.
