Sugar, atop the EAST, Miami hotel located in Brickell City Centre, is celebrating the Chinese New Year with Gau, a special cocktail in honor of the ‘Year of the Earth Dog’. Paying homage to its Chinese and Hong Kong roots, the rooftop bar will kick off their Chinese New Year Celebration on Friday, February 16, at 9pm.
Sip on the jiü zui (Mandarin Chinese for ‘boozy’) Gau cocktail while enjoying a traditional Lion Dance performance, live music, and exceptional downtown Miami views from EAST, Miami’s 40th floor.
The creation of the Gau cocktail was a team effort between the bartenders at Sugar, explained, Karol Ansaldi, Assistant Director of Nightlife. “Gau is the Chinese word for Dog, so that’s where the name originates. The inspiration for the cocktail comes from the Szechuan cuisine, a style of Chinese cooking originating from Sichuan province in southwestern China. This cuisine characteristically contains bold and spicy flavors. The bourbon, chili pepper, and honey are a nod to that.”, shared Ansaldi.
Gau Cocktail recipe and preparation
- 2 oz. Bourbon
- 1/2 Honey Infused with Kaffir Lime and Chili Pepper
