What to Drink, Eat + Do During a Weekend Stay on Miami Beach

On the southern tip of Miami Beach, between 16th and 25th Streets, lies the glamourous South Beach neighborhood.  Its main road, Collins Avenue, is buzzing non-stop between hotel pool parties with the latest, hottest DJ spinning and dinner soirees at chef-driven restaurants.

Yet, it is not always necessary to play hard when on vacation in South Beach. There are also many low-key daytime experiences to enjoy for a true getaway. The Kimpton Surfcomber is a perfect hotel choice to stay however you choose to amuse yourselves.

Keep on reading to learn more about The Surfcomber, plus restaurant and bar recommendations as well as fun and chill destinations for your perfect Miami Beach getaway.

EAT & DRINK

IN-ROOM WINE BAR

The Surfcomber’s main dining restaurant, Social Club, is undergoing final renovations, which will include a new wine cellar. In the meantime, hotel guests are fortunate to have a choice of Gerard Bertrand’s red wines by the bottle through an in-room bar selection. Guests can enjoy their purchased bottles with in-room dining service or, without incurring a corkage fee, bring them down to dinner in the restaurant.

French winemaker Gerard Bertrand seven wineries, all located in Southern France, employ biodynamic winegrowing.  From nose to palate, you will experience all the delicious benefits from GB’s harmony with nature practices.

For fans of red blends, consider:

Chateau de Villemajou -this jammy blend of mainly Syrah and Carignan is deep garnet in color, with notes and aromas of sweet spices and fruit. It is round on the palate with a long and aromatic finish.

Cigalus – this dark ruby blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with an intense bouquet of ripe black fruit and toasted oak. It is lush on the palate with velvety tannins, and a long finish.

Chateau L’Hospitalet -this lovely blend of Syrah, Grenache and  Mourvedre is brilliant ruby in color; with an intense nose dominated by spicy and red fruit aromas. On the mouth, this fruity wine presents silky and fine tannins.

SOCIAL CLUB AT THE SURFCOMBER

This cozy, living-room style restaurant and bar features a curated barrel to glass wine selection as well as handcrafted cocktails. The Social Club’s  menu, developed by Uruguay-native Executive Chef Javier Carballo, is richly inspired by the cultural influences of the chef’s Spanish and Italian grandparents.

DINNER

While you peruse the menu for your meal options, generate some party vibes with the easy-to-drink Blushed cocktail -mixed with Malfy Gin, Gerard Bertrand Rosé, Cucumber and Strawberry, then topped off with Club soda, -or the boozy Rockefeller -stirred with High West Kimpton Miami Series Bourbon, Montenegro, Aperol and Lemon Bitters.

To start, we recommend the Tipsy Shrimp -Argentinian prawn and Gulf shrimp topped with garlic chips, chili de arbol and  lobster cognac sauce, or the Spiced Kraken -Portuguese octopus spiced with Spanish paprika and served with confit potato.

For mains, consider delectable Pan Seared Red Grouper topped with tajini cream and served with green apple cous cous, or go big with the scrumptious NY Lucci Steak -a 10 ounce Wagyu Beef NY Strip topped with peppercorn truffle and shallot cognac sauce, and served with marble potatoes and charred asparagus.

End the night with a delish Naughty Latte – espresso mixed with Diplomatico Rum, Baileys and Vanilla, then topped with Marshmallows and Cinnamon.

And, if you can find room, order the yummy Chocoholic dessert -a sea salt + dulce souffle dusted with cocoa powder and served with Dutch chocolate ice cream and a white chocolate spoon.

BRUNCH

Offered daily -not just Sunday’s, from 7:30am – 2:30pm, could be why it was dubbed “Best Brunch in Miami”. Or, maybe it’s The Social Club’s bottomless Mimosas with your choice of two fresh juices: mango, orange, guava, peach, and/or pineapple.

You can enjoy all the Sunday Funday classics -from Eggs Benedict to Chicken & Waffles. However, there are many healthy selections that include an Acai Bowl and Lake Meadow Farm Egg White Omelets.

Sip on fresh pressed juices, such as Popeye’s Secret -blended with spinach, celery, apple, lemon and ginger.

HIGH TIDE BAR & GRILL AT THE SURFCOMBER

Whether you are hanging at the pool all day, in a private poolside cabana or coming off the beach for lunch, this palm tree-shaded backyard space with swinging hammocks and open-air bar and lounge has the perfect menu to beat the daytime heat.

ALL DAY

We recommend cooling off with a Frosé or Frozen Margarita -available in strawberry, mango, passionfruit as well as classic lime, and request it served in a coconut. Or, try a refreshing beer from a local brewery, such as Veza Sur’s Spanglish Lager.

Do order something delish and light such as the Ceviche or Surf Tacos -tuna poke, gulf shrimp or grouper. For hungrier  appetites, go for the scrumptious chimichurri aioli topped Surfburger with a side of Yucca Fries.

Reserve a private poolside cabana, serviced by High Tide, and receive a complimentary chilled bottle of Gerard Bertrand sparkling wine.

DO

K’ALMA SPA

This full service spa is located before a row of private outdoor cabanas opposite the pool. Enjoy your well-deserved treatment on site or in the privacy of your room.

We recommend the great-smelling and energizing Cafecito Massage Surfcomber Signature Treatment. You choose the intensity of this hour-long, full body massage using an antioxidant-rich oil, infused with organic coffee beans, and you can also get a sensual massage if you go online to the right places. The caffeine acts as a potent free-radical scavenger and cell detoxifier to repair and renew skin. Plus, you will release all the pent up tension your body has been holding from the everyday stresses of life.

A cup of hot tea is waiting for you to slowly prepare you to move forward with your day in this new relaxed state.

For reservations, call: 305-534-5555 or email: reservations@kalmaspas.com

TIP: Following a massage, which stimulates your lymphatic system, do drink plenty of water -such as Jové Water, to flush out the resulting toxins. This alkaline water will got only deliver deep hydration, but also nourish your skin from the inside out…self care you can use daily.

THE POOL AT SURFCOMBER

The majority of the Surfcomber’s summer daytime activities center around the pool, and include Yoga and Aqua Zumba as well as Splash Pong and Floating Poker. With feel-good house music pumping, the pool is serviced by High Tide for drinks and food, and a pool concierge with towels, chilled fruit-infused water and a hand pump dispensing forgotten sunscreen.

THE BEACH

A wide sandy beach awaits just outside the hotel’s backyard gates, and across the boardwalk. Take a meditative walk along the shore, body surf out into the ocean -under the watchful eyes of lifeguards, or lay out and relax to the sounds of crashing waves.

Each room receives two complimentary beach chairs, and, for rent, a shading umbrella which we highly recommend. Also available at the beach for guests, towel service and food and beverage service from High Tide, the Surfcomber’s bar and grill.  Jet rentals are available from beachside Bouyah Watersports.

MIAMI BEACH BOARDWALK

Walk, jog or borrow a hotel bike to journey down the beautiful and scenic paved pathway that stretches nearly seven miles, and terminates at the famous Lincoln Road pedestrian mall.  With plenty of resting spots along the way, enjoy the spectacular beauty of the Atlantic ocean on one side and lavish views of Miami Beach hotels, condos and parks on the other.

TIP: Travel with a great-looking beach bag from Urban Original that can double as your personal carry-on. Don’t forget to pack a great-smelling and water-resistant sunscreen, like Sunplus Face+Body SPF 40 -and, Sunplus Aftersun to cool down and rehydrate your skin.
