As you may recall, “Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker,” is a quote mischievously uttered by Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Head to Upper West Side’s LOCL Bar at NYLO Hotel to enter a world of pure imagination with their Willy Wonka inspired pop-up bar. Until the end of January, you can experience a taste of the magical world of Wonka, with cocktails designed by the wildly creative, Cody Goldstein, is the Candy Man who can behind the bar, making Roald Dahl’s world of wonder come to liquid life.
The cocktails are all Instagram magic, especially the Goodie Goodie Gumballs which is served in a custom gumball machine with Codigo Blanco Tequila, St. Germain, lemon bitters, white cranberry and gumballs. Other cocktails include the Violette, You’re Turning Violette with Don Julio Blanco Tequila, pineapple, lime, ginger beer, Créme de Violette and Butterfly Blue Tea and Snozberries Taste Like Snozberries with Four Pillars gin, Snozberry, Jagermeister and lemon foam. Our personal favorite from a taste and balance perspective is The Sundae Funday with Bulleit Bourbon, milk, coconut, Snickerdoodle and Licor 43, topped with whipped cream and Funetti.
The hotel’s lobby bar decor features giant lollipops, candy-cane handrails and mushroom seats and the library has a min-sweets shop where guests can fill up a pre-priced bag, and fill it up sugary nibbles. There are also small snacks available to order such as Rainbow Popcorn and Prosecco Gummy Bears. This pop-up is definitely worth the trip to the Upper West Side for a sugar rush, if only just for the colorful social media photos. We suggest doing stopping in before dinner or meet for a drink occasion then giving your seats up for more candy craving patrons.
In the spirit of giving, $1 from every cocktail will be donated to charity partner, Save the Children. Supporting the organization’s work in advocating for children’s rights, providing relief and help to support children in developing countries.
