Crossings Brings Hyper-Local Food and Cocktails to South Pasadena

South Pasadena is one of L.A.’s fastest growing neighborhoods and located at 1010 Mission, in a historical brick and mortar building that was built in 1913, is Crossings. The outpost is a classic American restaurant focusing on hyper-local cuisine. In 2010, Patrick Kurchin bought the Edwards & Faw building and gutted and redesigned the whole interior. The two-story spot features a patio shaded by a 100-year-old oak tree, two bars, an open kitchen and a wine loft between the first and second floors.

Crossings embodies the historic energy of the building while still creating a comfortable environment. When Kurchin and Chef Kevin Malone crossed paths, their passions immediately inspired one another; Kurchin brought Malone onto Crossings as the Head Chef and instantly knew that it was going to be a success.

The recently launched new menu includes delectable dishes such as Wagyu Naval with ash, charcoal potatoes, soubise and burnt leek and Roasted Sunchokes with orange glaze and habanero and Hamachi Collar with pibil, tangerine, crème fraîche, Fresno chili and tortilla. There is also Hamachi Verde with snap pea agua chile, kaffir lime, cucumber and serrano and Pot De Creme with ancho chili, espresso, rice and almond flavored horchata foam and puffed rice.

Of course, with a new food menu, comes a whole new set of cocktails. Some of the standouts include the Ready, Aim, Fire made with Sombra mezcal, pineapple-honey syrup, pineapple juice, lime juice, Hellfire Bitters, garnish with peppercorn sprinkle and the Thai Me Up made with Aviation gin, green chartreuse honey syrup, lemon juice and sprig of Thai Basil.

Our favorite, though, is Crossings’ signature Tiki cocktail, the Mermaid Kisses and Starfish Wishes, made with Zaya rum, Montenegro Amaro, Velvet falarium lime juice, pineapple juice and garnished with a flower.

On the Happy Hour menu, try the New York Sour made with whiskey, simple syrup, lemon juice and red wine float or the Garden Party made with tequila, simple syrup, lime juice and hibiscus juice, garnished cucumber.

Crossroads also hosts weekend brunch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with dishes like Prime Beef Hash & Eggs, Beef Shortrib Quesadilla, Three Egg Omelets, Queso Fresco Pancakes, Chopped BLT Salad and Swordfish Tacos. To wash it all down, they pour signature brunch cocktails such as a Bloody Marys, Whiskey Punch, Mimosas and Bellinis.
