If your lifestyle includes social drinking as well as consuming organic, locally grown foods, hard kombucha may be your new go-to cocktail base. Kombrewcha is made with fair-trade black tea and organic cane sugar fermented with organic yeast and a lively symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast, (SCOBY). Naturally low in sugar and alcohol, (3.2% ABV), this fizzy adult beverage is a cross between beer and cider.
Kombrewcha OG, the original variety of the brewed kombucha, while refreshing, has a slightly vinegary taste. Here are two drink recipes to try at home:
Brewjito cocktail recipe:
- 3 oz Kombrewcha OG
- 2 oz Dry Gin
- 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- 1 oz Simple Syrup
- 4-5 Mint Leaves
In a tall glass, lightly muddle mint leaves, then add dry gin, fresh lime juice and simple syrup. Add ice and top with Kombrewcha OG, and stir.
OG Gold Rush cocktail recipe:
- 1.5 oz. Bourbon
- .5 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
- .5 oz. Honey Syrup (boil equal parts honey & water)
- 3 oz. OG Kombrewcha
Shake all ingredients, except Kombrewcha, and strain over fresh ice into rocks glass. Top with OG Kombrewcha. Garnish with lemon wheel and thyme.
