Chinatown continues to solidify its reputation as a top nabe to head for cocktails and bites, thanks to the opening of Lalo. The new spot by Chef Gerardo Gonzalez showcases California cooking with a Mexican flair. But it’s the drinks we are loving.

The cocktail menu was created by Anna Morris, an alum of Mission Chinese and El Rey, and offers playful options which pair perfectly with the food. Beverage concoctions include the Coming Soon, with rum, coconut, pineapple, and dragonfruit; the Tamarindo, made with tequila, tamarind, pineapple tepache, chili sugar rim and the Wilde Spritz, with rum, Pamplemousse liqueur, fennel, lime and cava.

In addition to the cocktails, there is a wine program curated by Alex Alan of Freeks Mill and Hotel Delmano with a focus on wines from California, natch, as well as Spanish varieties.

While we are all about the drinks, don’t miss the Chile Strawberries, the Vegan Ceasar or the Sweet Plantain Pie, either.
