We all know that Union Square is one of those places where things don’t often change. But with the addition of the recently opened Metropolis Oyster Room & Cocktail Bar, there’s finally a new place to head for drinks.
Located on the lower level of Union Square old timer Blue Water Grill, Metropolis has champagne and oysters, caviar and martinis along with live jazz music – basically a perfect might out.
The Drinks
The drinks menu features a couple of different champagne cocktails that are “floral twists on the French 75.” The classics are plays on the pre-prohibition cocktails including a Bee’s Knees, a punch, and a Sidecar.
The modern section of the cocktail menu are inspired by the greenmarket at Union Square, located just steps away. Beyond the Beet It!, there is a Ginger Bourbon Pear cocktail and a Grape Rickey.
If you are going with a group then you should check out the Large Format cocktails – they have a martini, a smokey Negroni and a fruit smash – which are all served table-side.
Seriously something for everyone.
Daisy
Ingredients: Suze Liqueur, Chamomile, Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut
Beet It!
Ingredients: Barón Tequila, roasted beets, ancho chili-sea salt rim
Smoked White Negroni (For Two)
Ingredients: Vivacity Native gin, Suze liqueur, Dolin Blanc vermouth, cherry & applewood smoke.
Metropolis Martini (For Two)
Ingredients: Your choice of Plymouth gin or Belvedere Vodka Seawater-Infused, pickled market vegetables.
The Food
The menu features oysters, shellfish platters (server between 2-6 people), caviar and bubbles plus the Metropolis Cheese Steak, Surf & Turf Tartare and steak by Chef Adam Raksin. All great for a post-cocktail nosh.
Flavored Oysters
I only had the Oysters Rockefeller and the Margarita Jalapeño oysters, but they have other flavors like the a Bombay & Fever tree tonic, Escabeche, thousand island smoked, and ocean water ponzu shooter.

Their caviar is so good! I recently tried the Russian Osetra Caviar for Sale Online and I’m obsessed. So if there’s any excuse to try caviar again, I’m down.
