Station LIC to open in Cocktail bar space

Remember in the movie Cocktail when Tom Cruise and Elisabeth Shue were hanging out in a bar at the end of the movie? Well, that place from the final scenes is now becoming a Long Island City bar called Station LIC, modeled after an old train station. Set to open in late spring or early summer, Station will serve classic cocktails and new American food in the building on the corner of Jackson and 50th Avenues that has been vacant for the past 12 years. [DNA Info]

Blue Bottle opens Boerum Hill location, gives away free coffee

There’s another Blue Bottle in town, this time in Boerum Hill. The newest Brooklyn outpost of the popular coffee shop celebrated the opening of their newest location at 85 Dean Street by giving away free coffee last weekend, much to the surprise of excited locals. The Boerum Hill spot is the sixth New York City location, with plans to open another across from Bryant Park later this year. [Eater]

Smith & Mills team opens Soho restaurant

Matt Abramcyk and Akiva Elstein from Smith & Mills have teamed up with chef Camille Becerra to open Soho restaurant Navy this past Monday, according to Tribeca Citizen. Becerra is known for her Greenpoint eatery Paloma, while Abramcyk is also an owner of Warren 77, Tiny’s and the now-shuttered Super Linda. [Tribeca Citizen}

NoMad to expand cocktail program

The NoMad Hotel is planning to open an extension of its bar this summer, with a separate entrance that will connect through the current bar, according to Flo Fab. Partner Will Guidara tells the NY Times that the small bar space has gotten too crowded with devoted drinkers, and they want to expand bar manager Leo Robitschek’s cocktail program. [NY Times]

Meade’s and Oliver’s City Tavern close

Beloved South Street Seaport Tavern, Meade’s, and West Village bar and restaurant Oliver’s City Tavern have both closed for good. Meade’s called it a day after a rent hike, while Oliver’s door was plastered with a marshall’s note.
