Mars Bar 2.0 To Open As The Pink Elephant, Allegedly

More news on the Mars Bar reincarnation in its former East Village space: it won’t actually be a Mars Bar, after all.

At least, that’s what EV Grieve is reporting after spotting a notice on the door of the luxury Jupiter 21 apartments that took over the lot, and some architectural plans sitting on a table inside, which referred to the project as The Pink Elephant.

Yes, that Pink Elephant. The international Euro-club with a small outpost on 8th Street, known for its chic parties and high-priced bottle service. Which makes sense considering that original owner Hank Penza partnered with none other than the hotspot’s owner Robert Montwaid on the new venue.

A notice on the front door of the space names Montwaid on the agenda for tonight’s Community Board 3 meeting, where the team including Montwaid and Penza’s other partners – Alain Palinsky, a co-founder of Juice Press and Chris Reda, an owner of The Griffin in the Meatpacking District – have listed their project as a “tavern.”

EV Grieve got a look at the space which boasts over 4,000-square feet of ground floor and basement space featuring one bar with 8 seats and 15 tables with room for 80 more, as well as “3-4 security guards” on duty nightly.

Sure does sound like the makings of a trendy, very non-divey nightclub.

Architectural plans seen through the window, referring to the venue as “The Pink Elephant.”
