There are lots and lots of places to get a drink in the West Village. Seriously, you can’t walk down one of the precious, tree-lined streets without running into at least one drinking establishment.
One of our favorites has always been Fedora, on West 4th Street, part of Gabe Stulman‘s Lil Wisco portfolio which includes Joseph Leonard, Jeffrey’s Grocery, Chez Sardine, Perla and Montmarte. This subterranean restaurant boasts a buzzy room and energetic vibe with low ceilings and a long bar where we love to sit and chat up the bartenders – they really are super knowledgeable and friendly
During a recent visit, we had the pleasure of meeting the man behind the carefully crafted – and cheekily named – cocktails, the insanely talented Brian Bartels. After briefly explaining what we liked, he made us a drink: the License to Dill. Not only was it one of the prettiest concoctions we had ever seen, it was also delicious. Made with Ford’s gin, dill syrup, fresh lime, cucumber and mint rinse, with a dill garnish, it went down really fast.
Next up was a cocktail from bartender – and HellaBitter partner – Tobin Ludwig, made with Tequila Blanco, citrus HellaBitter, honey, lime and Pierre Ferrand orange ameres (a fancy name for orange curaçao, basically). The flavors blended perfectly and it was really smooth.
Other favorites: the Songbird with sparkling wine, St. Germain Elderflower, Creme de Violette, fresh grapefruit and house lavender bitters and the summer-ready Angel Old Sun Punch with Guyana and Jamaican rum, Pavan Orange Blossom, fresh lemon, velvet falernum and house earl grey bitters.
