Detroit’s hospitality scene has been on the come up for quite some time. Cocktail driven, Standby, in downtown’s Belt Alley has been a true stand-out in Motor City. We have been intrigued by their Silk Road cocktail created by Bar Manager, Shane Bang.
“The Silk Road is inspired by the trading route spanning from Japan to the Mediterranean Sea,” says Bang of the cocktail. “Combining the botanical qualities of the gin with dry qualities of the sake and matcha. It has a subtle creamy mouthfeel and the drink evolves from the first sip as the matcha incorporates into the glass. Enticing. Refreshing. Intriguing.”

Silk Road Recipe & Method
- 1.5 oz Bombay Sapphire
- 1.5 oz Ozeki Nigori Sake
- .75 oz lemon juice
- .75 oz 1:1 simple syrup
Combine all ingredients in shaker tin. Shake vigorously. Serve in a Collins glass over 1×1 ice cubes.Top matcha whipped cream.
Matcha Whipped Cream
- 8 oz heavy cream
- 8 oz simple syrup
- 2 bar spoons of matcha powder
Combine all ingredients in a iso whip cream dispenser. Shake vigorously and then charge with two cream chargers. While whipping cream for dessert toppings and hot beverages is their primary function, cream chargers are capable of much more. A cream charger can also come in handy in enhancing the look and flavor of any dressing or sauce that you already have.
