Lower Manhattanites seeking a true dive bar experience have one less place to hang out now that Dakota Roadhouse has closed for good. The Financial District spot – known for its foosball and pool tables, darts and mini taxidermied creatures as well as its no-frills approach to drinking (they gave drunk guests a free cup of coffee on the way out) – was selling off all of its barware and equipment last week after losing its lease and hadn’t answered their phone in weeks.
This is a loss for the after work crowd who came for the happy hour specials – a bucket of Bud was only $13 on Thursday nights – and pub grub like wings and Dakota’s signature “cheeseburger fries,” deep-fried Angus beef stuffed with cheese and potatoes.
